What I’ve been reading

If you read my life update post you know things have been pretty bananas for me up until recently.  My reading has been all over the place amidst the chaos though I did manage to get some done.  The last time I updated what I had read was February so there are quite a few.

What I’ve Read:

The Martian ChroniclesThe Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Excellent collection of short pieces that form an overall story. You can definitely feel the criticisms of colonialism present in this work and I feel like it was very well done. I felt like the later stories were tugging more and more on my heartstrings and that ending was just…I don’t have words.

The HecatombThe Hecatomb by J. Edward Neill

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This one was a collection of short stories all set in the same world.

Old Man of Tesser 5/5
Let the Bodies 5/5
Skeleton Sculptor 5/5
The Circle Macabre 3/5

Children of the Sea, Volume 1 (Children of the Sea, #1)Children of the Sea, Volume 1 by Daisuke Igarashi

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Art is gorgeous. The story has caught my interest, I’m not sure what is going on but I’m interested to find out.

ODY-C, Vol. 1: Off to Far IthicaaODY-C, Vol. 1: Off to Far Ithicaa by Matt Fraction

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

It was honestly just meh for me. I thought the art was lovely but the story itself was hard to follow.

Norse MythologyNorse Mythology by Neil Gaiman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Well written and accessible, I found it to be a very enjoyable read.

JawsJaws by Peter Benchley

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Very different than the movie and I feel like one of the rare times where the movie was better than the book. That said I did like the book, it wasn’t amazing but I still enjoyed my read of it. Don’t go in expecting the shark to be as big of a part as it is in the movie. It’s more of a background force of nature bringing to light the very human problems amity is facing.

Feyness (Red Order, #1)Feyness by E.S. Carter

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

it was AMAZING! Definitely all the trigger warnings for this one but if you can handle very dark subject matter this one has a complex plot that comes together so well in addition to all the hotness.

With Visions of Red (With Visions of Red: Broken Bonds #1)With Visions of Red by Trisha Wolfe

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A thrilling and sexy mix of genres. Take crime drama, dark erotica, and murder mystery mix it together and this is what you get. I will absolutely be continuing the series! Fair warning this one ends on a mega cliffhanger.

BonesBones by Yolanda Olson

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A really twisted tale.  I’ve read a lot of fucked-up things but this definitely wins the “Most Fucked Up Thing I’ve Ever Read” award. Guy takes you along on a journey of madness, his madness, though remember he’s not crazy (or so he says) the descriptions of his delusions and his justification for everything is masterfully done.

Have you read any of these books?  If so what did you think of them?
