January & February Wrap-Up

So I had a really ambitious TBR for January and in true me fashion I did not read nearly as much as I planned.  However, I am pretty happy with what I read.  I am slightly altering my “you pick my reads” challenge.  I am changing it to be 2 out of every 5 books I read will be picked for me instead of 2 per month.  I’ve chosen to do this for two reasons.  One, sometimes depression is a bitch and slumps happen.  Two I have decided to do my booktube wrap-ups 5 books at a time instead of monthly.  For now, I will plan to still do monthly wrap-ups here on the blog though.

And Now The Books!

I’ll start with the two that were picked for me.

Maids of Misfortune (A Victorian San Francisco Mystery #1)Maids of Misfortune by M. Louisa Locke

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a delightful and surprisingly suspenseful Victorian mystery.  I wasn’t expecting the romance element but I found it charming and adorable.

Queen Takes Knights (Their Vampire Queen, #1)Queen Takes Knights by Joely Sue Burkhart

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Hot blood play and poly, I will for sure check out the rest of the series!  If you are a fan of vampire societies with hierarchy and political power plays you might want to check this out.

These were ones I selected myself.

I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State KillerI’ll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman’s Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer by Michelle McNamara

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Read this for an online book club. Excellent dive into the golden state killer.  You could really feel Michelle’s voice and passion coming through.

Kadin (Dragons of Riddich, #1)Kadin by Mel Teshco

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

So this one has a story, I actually read this as part of a challenge in a Goodreads group.  I was led to believe this was going to be a lot worse than it was so yay for that.  Felt like a lot of backstory was just glossed over that made it hard to connect with the main characters. Also not a huge fan of instalove :/

Violet EyesViolet Eyes by John Everson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Creepy creature feature that was exactly what I was looking for.  I did have some problems with how one of the characters was handled but it didn’t ruin the book for me.

If you would like to watch a video wrap-up of these books, you can find it here.

Want to pick something for me to read?  You can find my owned tbr shelf here, comment with what you think I should read next off of it.  For every 5 books, I read this year 2 will be ones picked on here, my channel, or by friends.

What’s your favorite book you’ve read so far this year?
